San Miguel de Allende
Self-taught artist and Miami native, the late Purvis Young will be on exhibition at Skot Foreman Gallery in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico with a body of mid-career paintings entitled "Testify", an homage to his spiritual subject matter.
Young is included in the permanent collections of some of the nation’s finest institutions, including the Los Angeles County Museum, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Houston Museum of Fine Arts, the High Museum in Atlanta, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum D.C. to name but a few. Last year, he was included in a major exhibition at the de Young Museum in San Francisco, and his work is was on recent view at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in “History Refused to Die: Highlights from the Souls Grown Deep Foundation Gift.” And the swelling of institutional support doesn’t stop there. Young is currently the subject of a solo exhibition in his hometown of Miami in what is one of the largest family collections in the world, The Rubell Museum. Beginning this May and running through November Young’s work will be included in the GAA Foundation’s exhibition at the 2019 Venice Biennale in Palazzo Mora - a huge signifier of art-world success...
