Absence as an affirmation in the work of William Fares
The art of William Fares operates as a record of immanence within a constructive abstraction, which loses the objectivity of reality by appealing for renunciation, by emptiness.
With suprematism, the representation is abandoned and abstraction conquers, the artistic task is freed of ideas and concepts to be pure "sensibility" shaped. In this exhibition, William Fares unquestionably resorts to this formal and aesthetic search which he does not want to hide from us, it is in fact a tribute, a reference and influence that has served as a guide in his creative process as an artist to an even greater purification, which approaches those precepts of yearning to approach the inexplicable mystery of the universe.
We find in his work the straight line as an elementary form from the support, to the interior geometric compositions, as a symbol of the ascendancy of man over the chaos of nature. The square as the basic element in rejecting the world of appearances and the recovery of pure color as an autonomous and independent entity; which will always be different, in an experimentation that goes more on the formal qualities of the color, that by a symbolic intention in a specific way in one or other work. And the white background, unpolluted, on an equal support of perfection that leaves no room for errors. It is the beauty of the simplest, the purest, the representation of the sensibility in the manner of Malevich.
Fares, goes to the concrete, towards a figuration without reference to the external. It is geometry by geometry. The shape is released from the container and the contents, going even further by being able to modulate the vacuum. From the two-dimensional plane creates cavities, removes matter, creates negative spaces, void. Constructing empty space with the intention of showing that space has been previously occupied. It is the presence of an absence that through formal emptying receives its energy. This void, nothing, is understood as the limit of creation, preexisting, and enabling the voice to explode. With the absence of any object; Is full of meaning, the void is full, breaking the neutrality and the indeterminacy of real space.
It is absence like Nothing, on purpose. A space without content. It is preexistence and energy without materializing, it is the annihilation of the "I" within a rational construction. Nothingness as a result of these negation processes. Negations of reality, including the subject itself, which advances towards abstraction and silence, but conclude affirmatively, as salvation.
It is not to say that there is a nihilism or that appealing to theological mysticism is the final intention of Fares, however, it is inevitable to make the analogy once the symbol disappears intentionally. An active Nothingness as the pure presence of God?
Nothing derived from the concept of the mathematical zero molded the vision of the Universe and of God. Since its origin and conceptual use has been a reason for rejection and fear because it means emptiness, chaos, is the unknown, the unmentionable, non-existence, death. In its own contradiction, from this void is where we were created, from this dark emptiness chaos arose, and chaos generated the rest of creation. That means, it is beginning and is end. The emptiness as the absence of matter and substance that at the same time is conflict. Accepting the nature of emptiness implies accepting that the infinite exists, and if we were created from it, so many other universes may have been created. And if the Universe is infinite, then there is no "center", we cease to be the center to turn into something else.
