SmithDavidson Gallery presents the photography show 'Reflections’ which poses a contemplative vision on the world of Contemporary Photography through the works of Ingo Arndt, Marie Cecile Thijs, Francesco Bosso, Vincent Lagrange and Marc Lagrange.

In Marie Cecile Thijs’ world, time stands still in images that exude surrealism. Objects we see in everyday life – a flower, yoghurt pouring in a glass, even a snail – are reframed and immortalized through the artist’s lens as figurative creations. Two tulips inexplicably suspended in air seem to kiss in an image which appears to transcend time and space, while a markedly modernist quality roots her work firmly in the 21st century. Marie Cecile Thijs’ work has been acquired in the collections of The Rijksmuseum, Museum Rotterdam and Museum aan het Vrijthof Maastricht. Marie Cecile Thijs also attracts ever growing attention on an international scale. Her work has been featured in exhibitions in Italy, Switzerland, Mexico, China and the United States.

German artist Ingo Arndt and Belgian photographer Vincent Lagrange place Wildlife at the core of their work; Arndt left for Asia with his camera fresh out of High School and has since become a renowned wildlife photographer, creating series in which he portrays animals and their habitats. His recent Puma series, photographed in Patagonia over a 6 month period has been a ground-breaking award winning series. ‘Between Us’ the series by Vincent Lagrange in which the final prints are large often larger than life, making the viewer feel small in the  human world. This creates a sense of wonder and respect and inspires a deeper appreciation of the natural world.

Francesco Bosso and Marc Lagrange both work within a clear photographic analogue tradition. Bosso solely creates silver gelatine prints and is linked to the likes of Ansel Adams bycreating monumental images of ice bergs, ancient olive trees and temples of lost civilizations. Marc Lagrange used his polaroid camera to create a timeless beauty, linked to the black & white photography of the 1950s and 60s his work celebrates the female strength throughout his recognisable body of work created over the past 30 years.

SmithDavidson Gallery has been a hallmark gallery within The Netherlands and abroad for well over 5 decades, as David Smith and Gabriëlle Davidson expanded the gallery internationally and have broadened the gallery focus to include photography over the past decade with recent exhibitions in New York City, at Photo London, Art Miami and with Marie Cecile Thijs, Girl in Kimono (2023) solo presentations by Marie Cecile Thijs and Marc Lagrange in the Amsterdam Gallery in 2022.
