Since opening in 1964, Stern Pissarro Gallery has built a strong reputation dealing in some of the most renowned names of the art world. On the 2nd June, they are excited to present ‘ART on PAPER: 1920 to 2020’, an exhibition which brings together their finest modern and contemporary works on paper. With highlights by blue chip artists such as Matisse, Picasso, Chagall, Calder and Kusama, the selection covers a range of styles, moods and techniques, to provide an insight into the intimate world of paper.

Works on paper are celebrated for their delicacy and versatility. Often they showcase a more raw and organic approach, providing viewers with a deeper understanding of the artist’s technique, away from the typically labour intensive, or overly refined, process of painting.

Offering an attractive access point, they provide collectors with the exciting opportunity of acquiring pieces by the most sought after names internationally. Amongst the selection is a group of works by one of the most influential artists for the twentieth century, Marc Chagall. From a self-portrait, to a still-life, the group is a splendid example of the deeply fantastical and personal imagery Chagall is so revered for today and captures the intimacy and allure of works on paper. Accompanying these will be a variety of contemporary pieces, such as an emblematic work by Anish Kapoor, previously featured in the 1991 ‘Anish Kapoor Drawings’ exhibition at the Tate Gallery.
