Flock Together

Bethel Woods Center for the Arts Woodstock, NY 12720, USA Saturday, June 11, 2022–Saturday, October 1, 2022

In collaboration with Bethel Woods Center for the ArtsTaglialatella Galleries is pleased to announce Flock Together by Logan Hicks.

Flock Together is a body of work comprised of unique aerosol paintings that Hicks has created as a continuation of “Tunnel Vision”, the massive world-record setting mural painted in East Harlem between the fall of 2020 through the summer of 2021. The mural featured indigenous birds native to New York State, as does Hicks’ latest collection of paintings on canvas. The subject matter of this exhibition appropriately inhabits and beautifies the wilderness surrounding The Museum at Bethel Woods in the Western Catskill mountains. Hicks spoke of his inspiration for the series;

"During the pandemic I started work on the world’s largest stencil painting in Harlem at East River Plaza. This mural was a canopy of lush, stenciled greenery that covered the ceiling and walls of the drab concrete breezeway. Standing at 19,000 sq ft, this mural transformed the entire block and gave the viewer the feeling they were standing in the middle of the woods.  I added indigenous birds throughout the mural to add signs of life to this naturescape.

During this time I also began to reconnect with nature in the real world. Growing up on a farm in southern Maryland I began to realize how much I had disconnected from nature. I began taking hikes upstate as much as I could. The birds that I had been painting on grey walls of the city were now fluttering and dancing throughout the landscape in front of me. For my most recent body of work “Flock Together” I used these birds as the source of inspiration. The work is a celebration of the world that exists above our heads."

Logan Hicks will travel to Bethel Woods to see his collection debut on the very grounds where the Woodstock Festival took place, marked by many as a sacred space for the progression of art, culture, and creative ideals since the summer of 1969.
