Taglialatella Galleries is pleased to present Good and Evil by Giordan Rubio, theartist’s debut solo exhibition in New York City.

Living and working in Nice, it’s impossible for Giordan Rubio to ignore the rich tradition of art history in the South of France. Rubio’s journey into visual art is a navigation through the countless influences who lived and worked in the area, including Picasso, Matisse, Marc Chagall, Niki de Saint Phalle, Yves Klein, and many more.

If even by osmosis, Rubio’s imagery seems to pull from the subject matter that these legends of the region often visited and revisited; from common themes like morality and impermanence to more artistic challenges of a craftsman. Rubio’s paintings play with negative space, high contrast in minimal composition, and the study of ancient masters juxtaposed with contemporary symbolism.

Admirers often gravitate toward Rubio’s ability to blend pop culture iconography and historical references seamlessly, which is reminiscent of the style that made neo-expressionist Jean-Michel Basquiat a household name. Despite his youth, the unquestionable depth of Good and Evil solidifies this collection as Rubio’s most developed body of work to date.

“I hope this exhibition serves as a catalyst for meaningful conversations about morality and ethics in today's complex world. It encourages visitors to question their own beliefs, biases, and judgments, fostering empathy and understanding.”~ Giordan Rubio
