Romania during communism is the place of my birth and childhood. United States is the country that gave me hope and the opportunity to fulfil myself professionally and emotionally. France gave me beauty and art which give me continuing energy and excitement in this challenging world.  

With a background in architecture and after a long career in global finance, I decided to dedicate my time to my passion for art. My first step was Tajan where I learn daily and find delight in the art of many centuries. I believe there is an evolving continuity in art and there is beauty everywhere if one chooses to look. My initial love for art grew and expanded into a strong dedication to the art of our times and the artists that created at different stages of my very personal voyage.  

As early as 2004, we initiated and hosted regularly at Tajan the program “The Artist and his Supporters”. This program of unique events brought together many of those creating, defending and promoting innovative art and design: artists, designers, curators, collectors, gallerists and journalists. This early program has now evolved and greatly developed leading to the creation of a separate entity and brand, Tajan ArtStudio. At Tajan ArtStudio, our selected artists, guest speakers and the public have the opportunity to share precious moments and exchange interesting, challenging discussions.  

I was profoundly touched to learn at the start of 2018 that I have been awarded by the French government the Legion of Honor. I want to thank my wonderful team at Tajan for accompanying and supporting me during this exciting art adventure and to all the artists that have and continue to enrich my life. I also want to thank the curatorial team at Centre Pompidou led by my friend Bernard Blistene for offering me a second home in Paris and a continuing source of delight and inspiration. 

To celebrate this special event, we are hosting at Tajan ArtStudio a group of artists that help me trace again my personal voyage from Bucharest, Romania where I was born, to New York where I studied and built my career and family and finally to Paris, the city of my dreams.  

Given the many artists I love and defend from many countries, it was difficult to select, but I decided to focus now particularly on a limited group of French and Romanian artists, in parallel with the various events dedicated currently to the “Year France-Roumanie”. As soon as I took the reins at Tajan fourteen years ago and have decided to search for, identify and defend innovative artists, my team and I have also decided to support as much as possible French artists, particularly painters. My love of art and painting and thirst for discovery led me back to Romania and the early support of the group of artists from Cluj and Bucharest which have now become famous on the international contemporary stage. 

Although I defend many American artists, given this special context, I have selected only one American artist to mark this most important destination of my life. Richard Aldrich, an American artist working in New York whom I followed in depth for a long time, has created work which renders a special homage to France and its rich artistic heritage. 

Through artist focused and thematic exhibitions presented several times a year, Tajan ArtStudio has now become a creative trendsetter. It is a rich source to discover in Paris local and international new, emerging talent and rediscover overlooked or forgotten artistic movements and individual artists. Our goal is to share with the broadest public art, culture and our passion for innovation and creativity. 

It is with great pleasure that I invite you all to come see this particularly special and deeply personal exhibition and to follow all our upcoming, exciting events in the future.

Si j’ai grandi dans la Roumanie communiste, c’est aux États-Unis que j’ai eu l’opportunité de m’accomplir tant professionnellement que personnellement et en France que j’ai fait l’apprentissage du beau et de l’art qui m’insufflent chaque jour énergie et motivation. 

Après des études d’architecture et une longue carrière dans la finance, j’ai décidé de me consacrer pleinement à ma passion en rejoignant Tajan où, avec une intense satisfaction, j’apprends chaque jour de l’art des siècles passés et d’aujourd’hui. J’ai en effet l’intime conviction qu’il y a une constance dans l’évolution de l’art et que le beau s’incarne dans toute chose si l’on prend la peine de regarder. Ma passion s’est ensuite affermie avec une prédilection pour l’art contemporain et un attachement tout particulier pour les artistes dont les créations ont balisé mon parcours. 

En 2004, Tajan a lancé le programme « L’Artiste et ceux qui le soutiennent » avec pour volonté de créer des évènements uniques destinés à la défense et à la promotion de la création en fédérant artistes, designers, conservateurs, collectionneurs, galeristes et journalistes. Le développement de cette activité nous a encouragés à créer une entité à part entière, Tajan ArtStudio où les artistes invités, les acteurs du marché et le public ont l’opportunité de partager un moment privilégié de convivialité, de discussion et d’échange.  

En ce début d’année, j’ai été très émue d’apprendre que la Légion d’honneur allait m’être décernée. Je tiens à remercier la formidable équipe qui m’accompagne et me soutient chaque jour dans cette incroyable aventure ainsi que tous les artistes qui n’ont de cesse d’enrichir ma vie. Je souhaite également remercier les équipes de la Conservation du Centre Pompidou dirigée par mon ami Bernard Blistène. Ce lieu est devenu pour moi une seconde maison et une source continuelle de délectation et d’enrichissement personnel.  

À l’occasion de cet événement, Tajan ArtStudio est heureux d’accueillir des artistes qui contribuent à retracer mon parcours personnel, de Bucarest où je suis née, New York où j’ai étudié, fait carrière et fondé ma famille, jusque Paris, la ville de mes rêves.  

Parmi les artistes internationaux que j’aime et je défends, il m’a été difficile de faire un choix. J’ai cependant décidé de m’attacher, pour faire écho à la programmation de la Saison France-Roumanie, à un petit groupe d’artistes français et roumains. En effet, lorsque j’ai pris les rênes de Tajan il y a quatorze ans, j’ai eu immédiatement à cœur de repérer et de défendre des artistes novateurs. Nous avons alors pris le parti, avec mon équipe, de soutenir, autant qu’il nous était possible, des artistes français et plus particulièrement des peintres. Ma soif de découverte m’a également conduite à retourner en Roumanie pour soutenir dès les débuts le groupe d’artistes de Cluj et de Bucarest qui, depuis lors, ont accédé à la notoriété sur la scène internationale contemporaine. Enfin, bien que je défende de nombreux artistes américains, je n’en ai sélectionné qu’un pour souligner mon attachement à cette nation, Richard Aldrich, que je suis depuis longtemps avec attention et qui rend hommage dans son œuvre à la France et à son riche patrimoine artistique. 

Au fil des expositions monographiques et thématiques présentées tout le long de l’année, Tajan ArtStudio s’est érigé en prescripteur de tendances. Autant lieu de découverte de talents émergents, français ou internationaux, que de redécouverte de mouvements et d’artistes oubliés ou méconnus. Notre ambition est de partager avec le public le plus large, l’art, la culture et notre passion pour l’innovation et la créativité.  

C’est avec plaisir que je vous invite à découvrir cette exposition qui a pour moi une résonnance toute particulière et à suivre nos prochains événements avec autant de passion que nous mettons à les organiser.
