At our Greenwich location we will be exhibiting 7 paintings executed between 1969 and 1972 at the height of Davis’ output, including a five-canvas series titled Flamingo, a personal commission in 1970 by Mr. Stanley Marcus of Neiman Marcus department stores.
Gene Davis was a central figure of the Washington Color School who’s members included Kenneth Noland, Morris Lewis, and Howard Mehring. Davis’ best-known paintings, executed over a twenty-seven-year period, are the vertical stripe works in acrylic on unprimed canvas.
