My Favorite Things

 Wenn die lettische Malerin Elena Tarasenko zum Pinsel greift, dann darf sich der Betrachter nicht nur auf ein Déjà-vu-Erlebnis, sondern auch auf exzellente Malerei freuen. Stillleben, Figurenszenen und Porträts gehören zu ihren bevorzugten Themen, denen sie den unterkühlten Charme der Neuen Sachlichkeit der 1920er Jahre verleiht. Fotorealistische Wiedergabe, Nahsicht, Detailgenauigkeit, unspektakuläre Motive. Dabei hat die Malerin, geboren in Riga, Lettland wo sie eine fundierte Ausbildung genoss, mit diversen künstlerischen Richtungen wie Impressionismus, Pointillismus oder Surrealismus experimentiert und bei mehrjährigen Restaurierungsarbeiten Kopien der Alten Meister angefertigt, bevor sie zu ihrem eigenen Stil fand. Sie malt ihr eigenes Interieur, malt nach Skizzen und Collagen Porträts von Freunden und Bekannten, manchmal steht sie sich selbst Modell. Beobachtungen des Alltagsleben, wie sie die Künstlerin, die seit 2010 in Berlin tätig ist, macht, ergänzen ihre Arbeit. Ihren Bildern versteht sie stets einen Schuss Ironie zu geben: wenn etwa in ihren Blumenstillleben, gemalt in altmeisterlicher Lasurtechnik, Insekten auf die Vergänglichkeit allen Seins verweisen. Einige ihrer Werke sind von Filmen von Woody Allen oder des spanischen Regisseurs Pedro Almodóvar inspiriert, wie das 2019 entstandene mondäne Frauenporträt „Midnight in Brüssel“, das sich heute im Contea Caravaggio Museum Contemporory Art in San Giovanni La Punta auf Sizilien befindet. Hier stand Allens romantische, Oscar prämierte Filmkomödie „Midnight in Paris“ aus dem Jahr 2011 Pate, und Elena Tarasenko inszenierte eine Frau als geheimnisvolle Schöne im Stil der goldenen „roaring twenties“. Mit Spitzenschleier und extravagant gekleidet präsentiert sie auch eine junge Dame in dem 2020 entstandenen Bildnis „Tara“. Nicht von ungefähr heißt die Soloschau „My Favorite Things“. Es ist der Titel eines populär gewordenen Songs aus dem Broadway-Musical „The Sound of Music“ von 1959, den nicht nur Jazzgrößen wie John Coltrane oder Dave Brubeck zu eigenen Versionen anregte. Für Elena Tarasenko sind es die Dinge, die sie in ihrem persönlichen Leben umgeben und die sie persönlich mag. Eben diese kleine Dinge....

 My Favorite Things

 When the Latvian painter Elena Tarasenko picks up a brush, the viewer can look forward not only to a déjà vu experience, but also to excellent painting. Still lifes, figure scenes and portraits are among her favorite subjects, to which she gives the cool charm of the New Objectivity of the 1920s. Photo-realistic reproduction, close-up vision, attention to detail, unspectacular motifs. The painter, born in Riga, Latvia, where she enjoyed a solid education, experimented with various artistic directions such as impressionism, pointillism or surrealism and made copies of the old masters during several years of restoration work before she found her own style. She paints her own interior, paints portraits of friends and acquaintances from sketches and collages, sometimes she models herself. The artist, who has been working in Berlin since 2010, complements her work with observations of everyday life. She always knows how to give her pictures a dash of irony: when, for example, in her flower still lifes, painted using the glaze technique of the old masters, insects refer to the transience of all being. Some of her works are inspired by films by Woody Allen or the Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar, such as the fashionable female portrait “Midnight in Brussels” from 2019, which is now in the Contea Caravaggio Museum Contemporory Art in San Giovanni La Punta, Sicily. Allen's romantic, Oscar-winning comedy film “Midnight in Paris” from 2011 was the inspiration here, and Elena Tarasenko staged a woman as a mysterious beauty in the style of the golden “roaring twenties”. With a lace veil and extravagantly dressed, she also presents a young lady in the 2020 portrait “Tara”. It is no coincidence that the solo show is called “My Favorite Things”.   Le mie cose preferite

 Quando la pittrice lettone Elena Tarasenko prende in mano un pennello, lo spettatore può aspettarsi non solo un'esperienza di déjà vu, ma anche un'eccellente pittura. Nature morte, scene di figura e ritratti sono tra i suoi soggetti preferiti, ai quali dona il fascino cool della Nuova Oggettività degli anni '20. Riproduzione fotorealistica, visione ravvicinata, attenzione ai dettagli, motivi non spettacolari. La pittrice, nata a Riga, in Lettonia, dove ha goduto di una solida educazione, ha sperimentato varie direzioni artistiche come l'impressionismo, il puntinismo o il surrealismo e ha fatto copie dei vecchi maestri durante diversi anni di lavori di restauro prima di trovare il proprio stile. Dipinge i propri interni, dipinge ritratti di amici e conoscenti da schizzi e collage, a volte si modella. L'artista, che lavora a Berlino dal 2010, integra il suo lavoro con osservazioni della vita quotidiana. Con un velo di pizzo e vestita in modo stravagante, presenta anche una giovane donna nel ritratto "Tara" del 2020. Non è un caso che la mostra personale si chiami “My Favorite Things”.
