Since its inception in 2020, TW has worked to advance artists' careers, pairing them with suitable galleries, artist services, dealers, and collectors globally while also displaying and selling art directly from its Brooklyn, New York, and Palm Beach, Florida outposts. Montauk's long history as an artist community makes it a natural fit for TW's mission to bring avant-garde programming to art-inspired audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Similar to its previous iterations in Brooklyn and Palm Beach, it's paramount to TW that we engage with the community.
TW always operates in unconventional spaces, and Montauk is no exception, transforming a previously abandoned auto service station into a refined art environment. Right on the heart of Montauk's main drag, this space has been vacant for over thirty years. TW wanted to maintain the soul of the structure (the maze-like layout, the glass garage doors, the classic siding) while making it more hospitable for viewing and experiencing art.
The first of two inaugural exhibitions is entitled Good Vibrations, a collective exhibition of secondary market works featuring Andy Warhol, Jeff Koons, Massimo Vitali, Paola Pivi, and more. Everything plays off kinetic motion -- whether that's the curvature of the human form or the rippling waves of the surf. Good Vibrations will run concurrently with a solo exhibition of new works by Philadelphia-based artist Stacey Lee Webber titled The Heist, which features works entirely made from currency.
In Stacey Lee Webber's The Heist, sculptures are produced through soldered and cut coins, while wall works are created by embroidering into paper currency. This exhibition will feature new imagery that both plays upon Montauk's relationship to the sea and also the community's history of self-reliance through a demonstration of the tools of labor (saws, buckets, hatchets) made out of the tools of commerce (currency!).
In its new location, TW Fine Art will continue to bring its signature mix of blue-chip secondary market works and works by emerging artists represented by TW. In this way, TW continues its vision of making fine art at every level more accessible.
Pedagogy and art education continues to be paramount to TW's programming –– you can expect to enter TW Montauk and receive a world class education about art from the world’s most sought after artists while also finding beautiful and desirable works for sale at every price point.
