1950s Paintings & Works on Paper
September 4 October 11, 2003
John Opper's 1955 painting exhibition at the Egan Gallery was reviewed in ARTnews by Parker Tyler who remarked "Relatively few are as good at it as he is."
The forthcoming Opper show will be the first by the artist at the Washburn Gallery and will focus on Opper's paintings and small works on paper from the 1950s. Opper's color in these years is brilliant, with strong physical brush strokes creating the intense energy so characteristic of the so-called New York School in the 1950s.
A brochure with six color reproductions and the full Parker Tyler review will accompany the exhibition.
