White Cube Hong Kong is pleased to present ‘Encounter’, a new project conceived in two parts bringing together a selection of works by the gallery’s represented artists.

Part 1 features paintings, sculptures, installation and works on paper, organised into three distinct sections across the gallery’s exhibition spaces. Part 2 is conceived in collaboration with K11 Art Foundation and presents the work of Theaster Gates and Ibrahim Mahama.

To encounter is to come upon, to experience and engage, especially unexpectedly. An audience encounters a work, just as one work enters into dialogue with another. This project aims to facilitate such encounters, addressing the similarities, connections and even contradictions that are made visible by proximity. By highlighting the varied artistic perspectives and distinct methodologies of enquiry, the selection is intended to generate unfamiliar dialogues: in turn proposing new points of reference and understandings.
