“Frank Avray Wilson was one of the first British abstract expressionist painters” - Independent
Whitford Fine Art will hold this autumn a major posthumous exhibition of previousely unseen early works by one of the best Abstract Expressionist artists this country has produced, Frank Avray Wilson.
During the 1950s and early 1960s Avray Wilson enjoyed a celebrated status alongside Riopelle and Soulages, with no less than twelve one-man shows held at prestigious galleries in London, Paris, Brussels. Since, his art has been firmly inscribed in Art History as ‘Tachist’, the European form of Action painting.
Whitford Fine Art has secured a number of key works from the 1950s and 1960s directly from the Artist while alive which will finally allow collectors and the public at large to rediscover the power and beauty of this influential British artist.
