Yield Gallery proudly presents a bold new exhibition that explores Ben Eine's iconic typographic paintings and presents his unique exploration of typography. The exhibition celebrates the power of creativity in challenging the status-quo through the often-unheard story of street art. It presents graffiti art, not only as a form of social protest, but also as a voice and a creative language. Ben Eine is one of the most famous Street Artists in the world. Initially, a graffiti writer from London his letterforms are regarded as pioneering in the exploration of contemporary typography art. Eine has spent over 30 years honing and developing his unique style of typographic art, juxtaposing brightly coloured circus font with poetic words and phrases. Eine began painting huge, bright and colourful letters on shop shutters sprawled across East London, creating beautiful forms executed with a relentless “graffiti mentality”- painting over sixty shutters in the space of only a few months. These shutters stood out like a beacon from the usual tags, dubs and otherwise drab and dull inner city landscape. Painted anonymously these bright and imposing shutters quickly caught the public’s attention and were seminal in the rise of street art’s popularity. In the early days, Ben Eine was also Banksy’s best friend, right hand man, printer and the creative brain behind many of the world famous Banksy pieces you see today sprawled all over the media and featured in many auction houses, such as Sotheby’s and Christie’s. Ben Eine’s bespoke works are currently on display at Yield Gallery, Blackheath. For further enquiries please contact: [email protected] or call 02078560304
