Biography
Albert Watson is a Scottish fashion and commercial photographer. Best known for both his stark black-and-white and color photographs of celebrities, his subjects have ranged from Salvador Dalí, David Bowie, and Uma Thurman to business and political leaders like Bill Clinton and Steve Jobs. Born 1942 in Edinburgh, Scotland, Watson went on to study at the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design and the Royal College of Art. Following his move to Los Angeles in 1970, Watson began shooting popular fashion magazines such as Harper's Bazaar and Mademoiselle, as his prominence in the industry quickly skyrocketed. His honors include a Grammy Award and Centenary Medal and Honorary Fellowship from The Royal Photographic Society, as well as solo exhibitions of his work at institutions like the Museum of Modern Art in Milan and the KunstHausWien in Vienna.
