DREAMCATCHER
My work has always been related to the natural world but with a dreamlike and fantastic vision
where the basis is always lightness.
Dreamcatchers are reminiscent only in evocation of Indian dreamcatchers in that in their
openwork weave an absurd metamorphosis of invented butterflies or ginkgo leaves.
In the dreamcatchers the worlds of water and air contaminate and interpenetrate one within
the other. These are butterflies swimming and The central splash becomes a kind of stargate to
other dimensions.
The butterflies used in the dreamcatchers are designed by me: They are therefore metamorphoses
impossible...but Art allows these illusion games.
I generally start from a center as in mandalas and let the shape disintegrate
outside by fragmenting the wings and using ash to create the effect of dust in
fading.
The choice of the butterfly is also related to its strong symbolism: in fact, the word butterfly is derived
from the Greek term psyche, which means both butterflies and soul.
Therefore, I like to think of the dreamcatcher as a kind of soul net in which is
condenses all the power of the universe.
But above all, the center is the most precious part of the work because it is composed of a disc of
Murano glass made with a unique technique in the world.
The furnace in which I made these discs has been operating since 1300.
The whole composition of the work and the color are inspired by the central disk.
