The picture was part of the collection and renowned garden at The Laskett in Herefordshire formed by Sir Roy Strong and his late wife the set designer Julia Trevelyan-Oman. Carolyn Sergeant and her husband and fellow artist John Sergeant were friends and neighbours of the Strongs.
