Georgia Russell

(Scottish, born 1974)

Georgia Russell is a contemporary Scottish artist known for her collages meticulously constructed from found materials like old books, music scores, maps, and stamps. She has said of her work: “Cutting out is a sort of freedom of expression. For me it’s drawing, but I draw with a scalpel.” She was born in 1974 in Elgin, Scotland and studied fine art at the University of Aberdeen before completing a masters with a focus on printmaking at the Royal College of Art in London in 2000. She has had solo exhibitions at the Galerie Karsten Greve in Paris, the Contemporary Art by Angela Li gallery in Hong Kong, and the American University of Paris. Her work is held in collections around the world, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. She lives and works in Méru, France.
