Description
This drawing was formerly in the collection of Edmund Arnold, Chairman of the well-
known eponymous firm of printers, publishers and book distributors. Arnold was
Treasurer of The Leeds Art Collection Fund and had a distinguished collection of British
20th Century art. Highlights of the collection include The Henry Moore Mother and
Child,1937 (coll. Leeds City Art Gallery) and the Barbara Hepworth Biolith 1948 in the
Yale Centre for Visual Arts.
This spirited drawing in beautiful un-faded condition would have been completed
shortly before Sutherland took up his appointment as an official war artist.
