It was first produced without the lettering in a 100 numbered and stamped prints. The lettering was added in a second pressing and it is this version that is reproduced here.

The image depicts an enigmatic woman Toulouse-Lautrec briefly glimpsed on a voyage from Paris to Bordeaux. He refused to disembark at Bordeaux and continued on to Portugal in the hope of meeting with her. He was set on continuing on to Dakar in the search for this woman when his traveling companion refused to acquiesce and they disembarked at Lisbon.
