Description
Since the late 1960s Jannis Kounellis has held an interest in alchemy, converting unorthodox materials into rich sources of meaning. Made to accompany his exhibition at Stadtisches Museum in Mönchengladbach, which ran from May 11th to June 11th in 1978, this boxed catalogue contains cards printed with Die Skythen, a poem written in 1918 by Russian lyrical poet Aleksandr Blok, along with a multiple made of compressed board, tissue, and a line of explosive powder. The work is intended to be ignitedan action that, like much of his art, is at once anti-elitist and transformative.
