Joana Vasconcelos’ creative process is based on the appropriation and at the same time decontextualisation of pre-existent objects and everyday realities in combination with the materialization of concepts which challenge the pre-arranged routines of the quotidian affinities. Her works are full o the energy of that gravitates between reality and dreams, the everyday and magic, the festive and the tragic.

"I like to create a space for discovery, a first moment where you capture what is obvious in the piece, where you can consume it in the first instant. But as you come closer, you discover there’s more to it and you start to deconstruct it."

"Vitrail 2" follows the colorful window, 'Vitrail', created by the artist in chateau de Versailles for her exhibition in 2012. The Franco-Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos was the first woman to exhibit in the gardens and in the rooms of Versailles Palace, where she was able to interpret the dense mythology of Versailles, transporting it into the contemporary world, and evoking the presence of the important female figures that have lived there.
