Description
The present works forms part of the Archilove series. Chelushkin attempts to transcend the boundary between erotic art and mere pornography. The artist elevates it to the status of high art by placing his passionate lovers in a highly cultural contest. The City of Avignon, with its legendary Papal Palace and Pont d’Avignon, is nowadays one of the most visited monuments in Europe. Its intricate plane is tattooed on the lovers’ skin. In his artist’s statement, Chelushkin emphasizes his deliberate choice of plastic and graphite over paper for his work. It makes his work highly expressive.
