(German, born 1940)
Biography
Otmar Alt is a German artist best known for his colorful sculptures and paintings. Most often depicting animals and people, Alt’s work is influenced by artists like Joan Miró and Paul Klee, both in his interest in children’s art and his pictorial sense of humor. Born on July 17, 1940 in Wernigerode, Germany, Alt went on to study at the Berlin University of the Arts under the sculptor Karl Hartung. He later worked as a set designer for many years in Berlin, a career which shaped his development as an artist who paints three-dimensional objects. Alt’s work is in the collections of the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art in Norman, OK, and the Deutsches Freimaurermuseum in Bayreuth’, among others. He lives and works in Hamm, Germany.
