Description
Fresh proof in excellent conservation condition, with full margins.
Printed by Louis Fort and edited by Ambroise Vollard, Paris.
As in most of Picasso’s depictions of these performers, we encounter them here off- stage, captured in a private moment. This intimist scene, showing the acrobats rehearsing, washing and taking care of children is in direct contrast of the figure of a street performer, playing (an on occasion, debasing themselves), for an audience. While their vestments serve to show the divide between the circus performers and the rest of society, Picasso created an intimate, and ultimately atemporal, image of family life.
