This is one of a series of portraits of imaginary wrestlers, a subject which has interested
the artist throughout his life. Indeed when Blake was once asked what he might have
been, had he not been an artist, he said he would have liked to have been a professional
wrestler.
Blake returned to Ms Super in 2010 when he made 30 hand coloured etchings after the
present work.
This picture was formerly in the collection of Damien Hirst’s manager Frank Dunphy. It
was included in the artist's major retrospective at The Tate Gallery, Liverpool in 2007.
