Description
Wasko executes a metaphysical deconstruction of the Berlin Wall, somewhat prophetically anticipating its actual fall one year later. The photograph in the first panel depicts the famous border crossing between East and West Berlin. The following five images show a plan view of buildings subjected to mathematical and geometric transformation. “Checkpoint Charlie”, an important symbol of the Cold War, slowly dissipates, dissolved in the abstract grid of straight lines. The actual fall of the Berlin Wall becomes visible in the second part of the work, which includes six photographs documenting the events of November 9th 1989.
