Description
Like almost no other artist, Siegward Sprotte was able to create a nature landscape with only a few brushstrokes. He looked at nature closely throughout his life. Nature was his central theme. However, he was less interested in reproducing that seen and experienced. In fact, Sprotte, who was also active as an author, philosopher and composer, was always on the trail of the mysterious essence of nature. His artistic processes of creation reflect the formation processes of nature. The few brushstrokes of the artist depict a complex whole. In this gouache, 10 strokes are enough to create the broad low tide landscape of the North Sea in the mind’s eye of the viewer. Synaesthetically, as it were, the excerpt from nature originates in the imagination of the viewer while the work is being viewed.
