Description
The cast iron sculpture "Grenze weg" by Tony Cragg is a homage to the German reunification and was exclusively promoted by the German newspaper BILD on this 25th anniversary in 2015. With its thematic reference to the Brandenburg Gate, the rust patinated sculpture symbolizes the once impassability of this triumphal gate, which is symbolically expressed in the almost closed design. Only the center of the sculpture is accentuated by a gap-like opening that can be understood as a passage. As a triumph over the former impermeability of the gate, this opening symbolizes the fall of the Berlin Wall and thus gives the 210 kg steel sculpture its name: “Grenze weg” = “Border gone”.
