An exhibition of new work by Duane Slick.
The gallery is happy to announce the opening of the exhibition Duane Slick - An Utterance and Its Echo. This exhibition marks 30 years of our relationship with Duane, and will feature new work from his studio along with work that was recently shown
in his first one person museum exhibition at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, CT, which was featured in a full page review in the NY Times.
The exhibition will incorporate larger scale paintings along with a series of Coyote paintings. In the traditions, Coyote is both foolish and wise. He is a creator and re-inventor. This series includes a range of these images from the past few years.
Slick is a member of the Meskwaki Nation of Iowa and the Ho-Chunk Nation of Nebraska. He has lectured at colleges and universities across the US and his work has been exhibited widely – besides the Aldrich Museum, recently in a national touring exhibition titled “Native Art NOW!” organized by the Eiteljorg Museum in Indianapolis and “Stretching the Canvas: Eight Decades Of Native Painting at the National Museum of the American Indian. His work is included in collections at The Des Moines Art Center; The Decordova Museum; the Peabody Essex Museum; The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; The Forge Project and the RISD Museum among many others. He has been represented by Albert Merola Gallery since 1992.
