The Albert Merola Gallery presents this special curated exhibition titled In and Out and Round and Round featuring the work of 15 artists. The work interprets the theme in a wide variety of ways. It could be by manner of process, such as Richard Tinker’s obsessive paintings and works on paper, or metaphorically, as in Tabitha Vevers’ Ascension/Descension, or Esteban del Valle’s Morning Lines. There are ceramic works by Becky Kinder and Elizabeth Insogna, and a hand stitched quilt by Julie Simms. The natural world is evoked in Michael Mazur’s Sheet Rain, and Susan Mikula manifests memories in her photographs of the old Herring Cove bathhouse. Paul Bowen’s sculpture dives deep into the heart of the matter, while the ever-trickster Coyote reappears in Duane Slick’s work, and Matthew Capaldo’s Carousel lends a mysterious tone to a familiar pleasure. Karen Heagle’s vultures and snakes are rich, respectful invocations of nature. Early intense drawings by Pat de Groot and a new painting by James Balla explore the power of the circle. Irene Lipton’s large scale painting echoes the theme in a powerful way.
