An exhibition of new paintings by Stephen Bron.
The Albert Merola Gallery presents this exhibition of new work by Stephen Bron. Just Another Diamond Day is a series of eleven new oil paintings on linen by the young artist. Like the songs on the iconic cult folk record by Vashti Bunyan that the collection is named after, each painting captures a small, meditative moment of natural beauty. A moth on a barn wall. Shells in the snow. A mourning dove roosting on the window-sill of the painter’s Bushwick apartment. Each moment is exquisitely captured in thick, gestural strokes. Broad abstractions contrasting and yet anchored by precise and delicate realistic renderings: a birch tree, leaves, moths, a snail, a seagull, a bird’s nest. As a collection the paintings echo one continuous walk through woods, onto ocean shores, and peering out windows as seasons change from winter to spring. These are paintings that demand one’s attention, and reveal more as one spends time with them.
Stephen Bron [b. 1993] is a painter living and working in Brooklyn. He studied painting and printmaking, receiving his BFA from Cooper Union, attended Yale Norfolk Summer School, and received an MFA in Painting from NYU.
