An exhibition of new paintings by Tabitha Vevers.

The Albert Merola Gallery is happy to present an exhibition of new work by Tabitha Vevers. This new body of work is extremely personal for Tabitha, as she reflects on her mother's work, and their lives together. Come join us for the opening reception. Friday, 7 - 9 pm.The artist's statement about the show:
SEEKING SYMMETRY
In this new body of work, I set out to celebrate my mother, the artist Elspeth Halvorsen, who just turned 90. The work channels her “intimate cosmos”—her life and her box constructions—creating a deep and joyous communion between us along with an appreciation for the present moment. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this has also reconnected me with the arc of my own life—and my artistic life—circling back to my earliest work, which referenced the natural world, the body, states of being, and states of mind, but with a vocabulary more abstract than figurative.
It should be noted that the paint application in the new work has not changed, nor has the use of gold leaf—with the addition of palladium leaf. The work still comes from a personal place and is expressive & referential—that is, it’s not purely abstract, but rather, abstracted from life and the physical and emotional world.
My mother is very much the touchstone at the center of this work, and that has been liberating somehow. But the work has also become my own personal meditation. I guess I would say that it encompasses the arc of both of our lives, and hopefully transcends the personal to become in some way universal—to invite others into their own sense of contemplation of time and life’s passages.Tabitha Vevers August 2019
