Provincetown
An exhibition of new work by Paul Bowen
The Albert Merola Gallery presents this exhibition of new work by Paul Bowen titled Woodlarking.
A long time veteran of the Provincetown art scene, Bowen continues to come up with soulful work that incorporates material found in Provincetown and along its shores. Bowen infuses his work with a timelessness that transcends trends.
Born in Wales, and having lived for 30 years in Provincetown, Bowen has an essential core that is always connected to the sea and the life and the lore that surrounds it. Much of the material used in his sculptures from washed ashore debris - planks, crates, other artifacts - that one finds along the beach. He makes his home in Vermont these days, but continues to come to Provincetown to teach and to find resources and inspiration by the sea.
A recipient of a Gottlieb Foundation Grant, and numerous others, he was a Fellow at the Fine Arts Work Center from 1977-79. His work is in the collection of many private and public collections including The Guggenheim Museum in New York and The MFA in Boston.
