Biography

Timeline

1900
Born into a wealthy family with homes in New York and Palm Beach.
1913
At the age of 13, she attended the New York Armory Show, and continued her interest in modern art after visiting the Armory.
1940 - 1944
Parsons ran the Wakefield Gallery and Bookshop in New York.
1946 - 1982
In 1946 she opened the Betty Parsons Gallery in New York City, which specialized in Abstract Expressionism. She showed work by Barnett Newman, Jackson Pollock, Clyfford Still, Ellsworth Kelly, Mark Rothko and Robert Rauschenberg among others.
She ran it until her death in 1982.
1982
Died at her studio on the North Shore of Long Island, New York.

Exhibitions

1996
An exhibit of her art was shown at the Midtown Galleries and they also offered her a job where she began her career as an art dealer.
The Fine Arts Gallery of the Southampton Campus of Long Island University exhibited painted wood "constructions."
Benton Gallery of Southampton is host for an exhibition of oils and works on paper.
1992
The Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center of East Hampton, showed her paintings on paper.
