Brooklyn, NY, USA Tuesday, November 16, 2010–Tuesday, November 16, 2010

Auction November 16th 2010

On November 16th, Rare Posters dba Art Wise will be holding its annual auction.

NEW YORK – Nearly 600 lots of posters, prints and rare books have been assembled for our annual holiday auction occurring on Tuesday November 16. LiveAuctioneers will be providing Internet live bidding as the auction begins at 3pm. (EST).

This collection is the most comprehensive auction Rare Posters has ever held. The images include works by Warhol, Lichtenstein, Rauschenberg, Wesselmann, Hockney, and Keith Haring, among many others.

Highlights include Lichtenstein’s Blue Lily Pad Sculpture, Warhol’s Grapes (FS190), Tom Wesselmann’s Judy on the Blue Blanket, several prints by Helen Frankenthaler and a rare portfolio cover by Keith Haring. We are also presenting the latest series of original acrylics by Dwight Baird (including his work at the Montreal Grand Prix).

For this special auction (and the high number of lots), we are separating the auction into two parts that will be taking place with one part succeeding the other (without interruption).

The first part consists of over 200 lots of selected posters being offered in individual, and assorted packs that are grouped by subject and/or artist.

The single-title packs of a 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 quantity start at extremely competitive prices. Choices include collectible posters from the Leo Castelli Gallery (created by Rauschenberg, Lichtenstein, Dine, and Oldenburg), the Pace Prints collection (including works by Robert Indiana and James Rosenquist) and posters from the Hokin Gallery (with images by Picasso, Lloyd Nesbitt, Trova, Alex Katz and Larry Zox). Other packs include posters by Romare Bearden, Botero, Chagall, Louise Nevelson, Miro, Razzia and Saul Steinberg. By purchasing any of these out-of-print poster lots, the buyer will be in holding of prints that will escalate in value over time, at a price to buy now!

The assorted packs of posters are grouped by culled selections of individual artist’s work such as Damian Hirst, Gerhardt Richter, Christo, Lichtenstein and Warhol and are also defined by subject (such as a group of Warhol Ads posters, Lichtenstein Girls, Christo’s Arkansas River Project and Miami Wrapped Islands Project, to name a few). Bidding on these lots of assorted rare posters will complement any existing collection with one purchase. For example, the Warhol ‘Ads’ and ‘Portrait’ groups include selections that are unlikely ever to be reprinted again.

Equally, we are offering thoughtfully assorted packs of reference books by Miro, Botero, Picasso and reviews from the XXieme siècle editions including rare stone lithographs!

In addition for the auction, will be the works of Chagall, Picasso, Le Corbusier, and other well-known 20th century artists that were published by Mourlot in Paris. These works will be offered both in groups (the first part of the auction) and available individually (in the second part of the auction).

Some of the themes (outside of single-artists) represented in assorted packs are collectible posters from the Willi’s Wine Bar in Paris, the Roland Garros tennis tournament posters, posters for Christo’s Wrapped Miami and the upcoming wrapping of the Arkansas River project, restrikes of the Monaco Grand Prix vintage races dating from 1930 to the mid 80’s, and original posters of the 1982 Spain World Cup.

Additional artists include Vija Celmins, Crash, Jim Dine, Robert Indiana, Jasper Johns, Le Corbusier, Peter Max, Robert Motherwell, Robert Longo, James Rosenquist and Tadanori Yokoo.

For over twenty years, Rare Posters has been the world’s preeminent source for contemporary art prints and posters.
