Austin Art Projects, based in Palm Desert, California, is a Fine Arts Enterprise which represents recognized contemporary artist's working in diverse media. AAP offers a comprehensive chronology of expertise to its clientele including consultation, acquisition, and installation while building extensive collections. In addition to representation of artist's work in the primary market, AAP also specializes in the resale of select significant Contemporary works.
In 1991, Austin Art Projects' principle, David Austin, cofounded Imago, one of the West Coast's most respected galleries. During this time, he built a successful reputation curating substantial private collections throughout the United States and mounted major exhibitions for such esteemed artists as Tom Wesselmann, Peter Halley, Robert Graham, Charles Arnoldi, Bryan Hunt, Don Gummer, Kenny Price, Karen LaMonte, William Wegman, Dale Chihuly, and Arman. Throughout the next 22 years, he also placed work within many museums, including Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Renwick Gallery at the Smithsonian, Chazen Museum of Art, Oklahoma City Museum of Art, and the Palm Springs Art Museum, among others.
The genesis of Austin Art Projects was a conversation between David Austin and the late sculptor Robert Graham when the artist presented the idea for Torsos, the culmination of the relationships with his sculpture models throughout his career. Their mutual commitment and collaboration set in motion what was to become AAP’s platform of providing support for artists’s specific projects. AAP serves as a conduit between the works facilitated through these advocacy efforts and the collecting public. As primary agent for many of the artist’s represented, AAP plays a key role in broadening artists' audiences by exhibiting the work in alternative spaces throughout the world.
