Began to engage with China’s independent filmmakers
1992
Director Wang Xiaoshuai directed Liu Xiaodong in The Days. This was awarded by the BBC as one of 100 best films made in the last 100 years.

Worked as artistic director on the projects of film director Zhang Yuan’s Beijing Bastard
1995
Earned Master of Fine Arts in Oil Painting, Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing, China
1998 - 1999
Studied at Academy of Fine Arts, University of Complutense, Madrid, Spain
2006
Conceived concept for Jia Zhangke’s award-winning film Dong, which was awarded best documentary film at both the Italian and European Film Association awards
Conceived concept for Jia Zhangke’s film Still Life, which won the gold prize at the 63rd Venice Film Festival
Currently teaches in the Oil Painting Department at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing, China
