Home Depot Painting #16, 2019
'Box Box' includes works from Annamarie Ho's ongoing series: Tute and Home Depot Paintings, both of which conceptually and formally investigate painting without the actual use of paint. Tute mines the system of sponsorship and design of Formula One racing suits, resulting in “paintings” composed of sewn fabric and logo-less patches that also allude to hard-edge abstraction. Home Depot Paintings transforms everyday mass-produced objects found in hardware stores into colorfully-glazed ceramic works, which are installed on the wall as "paintings"—historically the most privileged form of art. The title 'Box Box' references both the Formula One command for a pit stop and the white cube nature of the exhibition space.
