1928: Born in Paris to Russian parents, Erwitt spent his childhood in Milan, Italy
1939: Emigrated to the US, via France, with his family
1942 - 1944: Photography, Los Angeles City College, Los Angeles, CA
1948 - 1950: Film, New School for Social Research, New York, NY
1948: Moved to New York, NY
1953: Worked as a freelance photographer for Collier's, Look, Life, Holiday and others
1954: Became a Magnum Photos member
1960 - 1963: Served as Magnum's president
2011: Awarded the ICP Infinity Award for Lifetime Achievement from the International Center of Photography
