Timeline
1938
Born in London, UK
1951 - 1956
Studied at Harrow School of Art
1960
Graduated from the Royal Academy Schools
1963
Huxley had his first solo exhibition at Rowan Gallery, London.
1964
Bryan Robertson selected Huxley for 'The Next Generation' at Whitechapel Art Gallery, introducing Huxley and other artists to a larger audience.
Huxley wins the Stuyvesant Travel Awards, he moves to New York and begins relationships with many leading American artists of the period such as Mark Rothko and Robert Motherwell, as well as Pop artists Jasper Johns and Andy Warhol.
1965
Awarded the Harkness Fellowship, this funds a two year residency in New York concluding in his first solo show. This period is important, Huxley begins to deconstruct the monocentric format of abstract paintings popular at the time and begins working on a divided canvas.
1977
Awarded the Linbury Trust, began an intense year of experimentation and integration, blending cubist and surrealist sources into his work.
1986 - 1998
Professor of painting, Royal College of Arts
1987
Edited, 'Exhibition Road - Painters from the Royal College of Art' which he co-curated with Susie Allen. Huxley and Allen are awarded for outstanding service to the arts for their work by the Art Collections Fund (now The Art Fund).
Became a member of the Royal Academy of Arts
1998
