Deborah Colton Gallery is pleased to present Tribute: Women Artists of the African Diaspora, a selection of works by established African and African American women artists working in painting, sculpture, works on paper, video, photography and installation from the 1970’s to the present, in collaboration with Community Artists’ Collective. Some of the artists included in the exhibition are Ann Johnson, Jean Lacy, Annette Lawrence, Delita Pinchback Martin, Sondra Perry, Alison Saar, Kaneem Smith, Renee Stout, Colette Veasey-Cullors and Erika Walker. An opening reception on Saturday, September 17th will take place with many of the artists in attendance.

Deborah Colton Gallery is graciously supporting the Community Artists’ Collective with this exhibition to launch a series of exhibitions on women of African Diaspora in celebration of their 30th anniversary that will take place in April of 2017. Since 1987, the Community Artists’ Collective has created opportunities for various aspects of professional artistic development in Houston, especially for emerging and mid-career African American artists, through exhibitions, education, entrepreneurship and community development programs. Over the years, the Community Artists’ Collective has worked with more than 200 artists, reaching approximately 25,000 people annually directly and indirectly through their programs.

Deborah Colton Gallery will donate a portion of sales from Tribute: Women Artists of African Diaspora to the Community Artists' Collective during the entire exhibition. On Thursday evening, October 6th, there will be an important fund-raiser event for Community Artists' Collective where Deborah Colton Gallery will donate 70 percent of the Gallery's commission to the Community Artists’ Collective that evening.

Deborah Colton Gallery is founded on being an innovative showcase for ongoing presentation and promotion of strong historical and contemporary artists worldwide, whose diverse practices include painting, works on paper, sculpture, video, photography, performance, conceptual future media and public space installations. The Gallery aspires to provide a forum through connecting Texas, national and international artists to make positive change.
