Born in Chicago, IL.
1920
Moved to Pasadena, CA with his family.
1940
Hired as a photographer by the Pasadena Police Department, where he was employed for four years.
1941
Married contralto Eula Beal (b. 1919).
1944
Worked briefly for the Lockeed aircraft company before being drafted into the U.S. Army, where he assisted in the production of training films for the U.S. Signal Corps.
1953
Won the first of three Guggenheim Fellowships.
1955
Had his first one-man show at the George Eastman House in Rochester, NY.
1958
Moved from Los Angeles to Napa, CA.
1968
Joined the College of Environmental Design at the University of California, Berkeley.
2006
Died at his home in Napa, CA on August 26.
