ADDING THE BLUE: The collected oil paintings of Chrissie Hynde

In November 2015, Chrissie Hynde, the singer, songwriter and leader of The Pretenders, produced an oil painting of a ceramic vase. Fulfilling an intention that she would, one day, dedicate herself to painting, it would prove to be the starting point for Hynde’s first body of work.   

This exhibition includes the publication of a new limited edition book, ADDING THE BLUE, in which Hynde’s collected works are presented for the first time.   

ADDING THE BLUE is the first exhibition of Hynde’s work in the United States and follows her  progression as an artist, beginning with still life studies and culminating in vibrant abstract compositions. An accomplished and prolific painter, Hynde works exclusively in oil on canvas and her art encompasses a wide variety of subjects including figures, portraits of friends and family, self-portraits and landscapes.   

The immediacy and energy evident in her work reveals Chrissie Hynde as an artist as passionate about her painting as her music.
