Founded in 1966, the Galerie Daniel Templon counts among the most established Contemporary Art galleries in France. With over 600 shows during the last 50 years, it first gained recognition by exhibiting conceptual and minimal artists such as Carl Andre, Martin Barré, Christian Boltanski, Donald Judd, Joseph Kosuth, Sol LeWitt, Richard Serra. In the seventies and eighties, Daniel Templon was one of the pioneers of the contemporary art and introduced many important artists to the French public: Dan Flavin, Keith Haring, Ellsworth Kelly, Willem de Kooning, Guillermo Kuitca, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Mappelthorpe, Helmut Newton, Robert Rauschenberg, James Rosenquist, Julian Schnabel, Frank Stella, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Andy Warhol. Over time, the gallery has become one of the references in contemporary art in France.
Today the gallery represents a group of international artists. The program promotes a dialogue between generations: established artists, international mid-career artists, and the experiences of younger artists. The gallery participates in many art fairs worldwide and pursues an active commitment to its artists’ offsite projects, biennale participations, museum shows and artwork productions.
Daniel Templon, who is also the co-founder of French monthly art magazine Art Press, and a founding member ADIAF, which organizes the annual Marcel Duchamp Prize, founded the gallery. Galerie Daniel Templon is a member of the Comité des Galeries d’Art. The gallery has three spaces: two exhibition spaces in Paris (rue Beaubourg and Impasse Beaubourg) and one in Brussels, Belgium.
