Gerhard Mayer used a technical aid - an ellipse - to combine his art with the rules of line material at an early stage in his work. In this way, dynamic processes are created that are characterized by chance and necessity. He explains the process with an example: If one imagines a wet dog shaking itself and the drops of water flying away in a high arc, but then imagining the same picture without the dog, the flying path of the drops allows conclusions to be drawn about the movement structure and shape of the dog. For me it is much more interesting to show the energy flow and the relationship of the object to its surroundings than the object itself. On the one hand, in science I find parallels to my imaginary world, on the other hand I let myself be influenced by it.
