Galerie Utermann was founded in 1853 in Dortmund and is owned by the family's fourth and fifth generation today. Wilfried Utermann took over management in 1972 and aligned the main emphasis on the area of the German Expressionism and the Classical Modern age. The range was extended to include art after 1945 through the 1980s. Since then, artists like Fritz Winter, Emil Schumacher, and Karl Hartung are represented by the gallery. There exist close cooperations in the contemporary area with the painter Horst Antes, the studio Norbert Tadeusz, as well as with the sculptor Abraham David Christian. Lukas Minssen, the family's fifth generation took over management in 2019
We regularly show changing exhibitions in our premises in the Silberstraße in Dortmund. Moreover, our sculpture garden offers an ideal ambience for the presentation of bigger outdoor sculptures.
In spring, we are featured in art fairs such as TEFAF in Maastricht and Art Cologne. In the fall, we exhibit at Cologne Fine Art & Antiques.
Art enthralls–tradition obliges.
This company motto has been in use for more than 160 years. Our passion is for the art and its intermediation. We maintain worldwide contacts with art experts, institutions, and collectors, and therefore are able to advise you competently on the purchase and sale of your artworks and on the build-up or expansion of your collection.
In a special manner, the Galerie Utermann feels obliged to the oeuvre of the artist Christian Rolfs. The Christian Rohlfs Archive in Hagen has existed since 2011. It addresses itself to the scientific analysis of the extensive oeuvre of the artist.
