Biography

Timeline

Yves describes his work and fascination as follows :

'Since I was a young boy, age 10 or so, I have been fascinated by photography and I was intrigued by nature in all its forms and shapes. I always loved landscapes, but I also have grown an interest for more original perspectives on nature and photography in general. I made pictures that focused on beautiful patterns and colours, which became abstract entities on themselves.

Since the advent of digital photography more then a decade ago, my skills in making digital creations have grown year over year.
Over the past 10 years, I have been using modern digital technologies to create two "series" of works : the first being the “Silk Series” , which is more abstract in nature and the second being the “Rune Series”, which has a more surrealistic character.'

The 'Silk Series' :
'This Series is very intuitive and, in contrast to the Rune Series, is less based on conceptual thought. Its two essential components are:
A tribute to forms and shapes found in nature : using modern digital “brushes” and “canvasses”, the Silk Series is made up of abstract representations based on patterns similar to those found in the natural world. I am, for example, intrigued by the flamboyant colours of a bird’s feathers or a butterfly’s wings, by the waving patterns of a sea-anemone, by a tropical frog.

A tribute to light : light is complex. White light is made up of an endless number of wavelengths, each with its own specific light colour. It is also made up of particles which carry an enormous amount of energy (which we of course do not feel when we are within its range). Consequently, in my more recent works, I use a very high granularity which reinforces the granularity and complexity of light. Due to this granularity, each piece in the Silk Series contains its own “deconstruction” – that is, its own analysis of the light of which is composed its holistic image.'

The 'Rune Series' :
'This is more "intelllectual Spielerei" ; my plan is to make one piece that represents each letter of the old Northern European Rune Alphabet. Each of the letters in that alphabet represents not just a letter, but also different layers of meaning, depending on different legends and myths ... so the Rune alphabet is a very deep source of inspiration !'
