Profoundly shaken by his discovery of a painting by Giorgio de Chirico, "Child’s Skull" in a gallery window. Began paiting after this encounter

Introduced to the circle of surrealist artists around André Breton, by his friend Prévert
1927
Developed his own unique surrealist painting style

Moved to New York with fellow artist Kay Sage
1942
Moved to Woodbury, CT
1948
Became a citizen of the United States
