Married Emanuel Hunter and moved to Melrose Plantation where she picked cotton as a field hand

1928

Promoted to inside work (cook and maid) at Melrose Plantation and began to create appliquéd bed hangings, figurative quilts, and dolls

1938

Studied with Francois Mignon and James Register (artists-in-residence) at Melrose Plantation

1940

Created first painting (Plantation baptism scene) on a canvas roller shade

1944

Julius Rosenwald Foundation Grant

1950

Painted murals, Melrose African House
